Meet the chairwoman

Claire Dwyer is a seasoned piping material engineer with over 30 years of experience in piping design, engineering, and valve technology across a wide range of industries, including hydrocarbons, chemicals, mining, and even brewery systems. She began her career with Fluor in Johannesburg, South Africa, and currently serves as the lead piping material engineer on a major capital project in Houston. In 2020, Claire was honored as a Fluor Fellow, recognizing her technical leadership and contributions to the field.

Greg Whitaker

Greg Whitaker is a Mechanical Static Valve Engineer at Shell Global Solutions B.V., with over 23 years of experience in the valve industry.

His career spans valve design and engineering roles in the UK, followed by key positions at Total E&P UK (Laggan-Tormore Project) and Shell, where he has supported major developments including Stones FPSO, Coulomb Phase 2, Gamba Export Loading Line, Crux Project, Nigeria LNG Train 7, QGC, and valve standards development.

He also served as Valve Specialist Engineer on the landmark TurkStream Pipeline Project.

Based in the Netherlands, Greg specializes in valve selection, specification, project support, and troubleshooting for challenging upstream and pipeline applications. He helps maintain Shell’s technical standards for valves and Approved Vendor List through oversight of approved designs and quality auditing of valve manufacturing facilities, with deep knowledge of API, ASME, and IOGP standards.

Gunnar Holm Ahrens

As of 2025, Gunnar Holm Ahrens is the responsible Director for the VALVE WORLD EXPO Portfolio. The seasoned trade fair expert, has been with Messe Düsseldorf since 2016 and brings extensive experience in the international exhibition business. After holding positions as Senior Project Manager for the world-leading trade fairs wire, Tube, GMTN, and VALVE WORLD EXPO, as well as an international assignment as Director Projects at Messe Düsseldorf’s subsidiary in New Delhi, Ahrens played a key role in establishing the new sales structure in his position as Sales Development Specialist.
